Hello, World!
Explaining why I'm here.
Welcome!
My name is Devon. I love writing, I graduated with a BFA in Fiction Writing from Portland State University, I’ve contributed to various gaming websites, and I’m always searching for that next spark of inspiration.
I’ve had great difficulty finding a job. A common fate for a guy fresh out of college like me. I’ve found various freelance stuff, but haven’t really landed something that’ll bring in the spondoolies. I’m not the type of person to want a mega-mansion and five gold-plated Ferraris, but I do want a living wage. I was told that starting a blog would be wise, and one of my friends recommended Substack. I thought having one would be a good idea, even if only to put all my writings in one place for portfolio-building purposes, so here I am.
At least for now, I want a chill zone where I can put all my writing in one place. I want somewhere employers can go and see “Wow, this guy’s done a lot of writing, he looks like a guy we want to hire”.
But I wouldn’t be opposed to turning it into a more personal place in the future. I’ve really wanted to get back into short story writing, and maybe starting up this Substack is the excuse I need to get my butt in gear and back in the writer’s chair. I’ll cross-post anything I write here as well because if there’s anything Substack is built for, it should be short story writing.
I’ve never done well with consistent schedules, and Keengamer itself is far from consistent when it comes to workload. Expect at least two writings a month, that I can guarantee, but exactly when in that month it’ll appear I cannot be sure. Don’t expect a consistent schedule.
I don’t plan on starting paid subscriptions anytime soon, so just subscribe and you’ll get access to everything I post. Scientists have shown that free stuff is a good way to get people to pay attention, and you should always believe in scientists.
Scientists have also proven that subscribing is a great way to keep in touch with the content creators that you love, so, in the words of any obnoxious Youtuber “Be Sure to Mash that Subscribe Button!”
Thank you for reading my first post. Here’s to many more in future.
